Type 1 Diabetes vs Type 2 Diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition in which the individual’s blood-glucose levels are high. The reason for sugar levels being high in diabetic people is that their body fails to move sugar into muscle cells, liver and fat for storing it as energy. This could be because of pancreas not producing enough insulin or body cells not responding to insulin properly or both the cases. There are two types of diabetes, type 1 diabetes and type 2 diabetes. This infographic illustrates the difference between these two types.

Type 1 diabetes occurs mostly in children, teenagers or adolescents. Body produces little insulin or none in this condition. Daily insulin shots will be required by the patients. They need to follow a special diet to maintain their blood sugar levels.

Type 2 diabetes is more common and occurs in adults. Obese and overweight people are at increased risk of developing this disease, compared to people with normal body weight. The risk increases with growing age. Obese teenagers and young adults are also being diagnosed with type 2 diabetes these days.
