Microsoft is the leading software provider since its launch in the year 1975. Reports forecasts that more than 90% of computer on this earth use a version of windows operating system.

At present, one billion computers are running on windows operating system and the total revenue generated by Microsoft for the fiscal year 2011 – 20112 is $ 73.72 billion.

Microsoft with a total tradable revenue of $250. 77 billion occupies 4th place in the list of top 10 companies in United States while Apple ($ 610.21 billion), Exxon Mobile ($ 432.78 billion) and Wal-Mart ($ 254.21 billion) are the other three companies that are ahead of Microsoft.

The Microsoft operations are divided in to 3 categories which mainly includes IT services, entertainment and devices and business. And these three categories contribute over a workforce of 93,000 that is twice the work force of Apple, leading company in United States.

Apart from Microsoft other leading companies in United States are Google, General electric, IBM, PetroChina and Chevron.
