Adult Criminal Justice System in America

In recent years, the adult crime rate has been increasing gradually in United States. Every year in America, more than 250,000 youth are sentenced as adults of which 95% of adults are charged with non-violent offenses.

In more than 23 states of America, children with age of 7 years can be prosecuted in the adult court. And every 2 out of 3 Americans think that government should set a minimum age for prosecuting children at the adult courts.

According to adult criminal justice system, most of adults are locked down for over 23 hours in small prisons without light and no educational facilities. Reports show that every 9 out of 10 Americans favor rehabilitation facilities such as counseling, education and community services for a positive growth in adults while their stay in prisons.

In America, youth sentenced as adults in prison will receive an criminal record by which they are often denied from employment. Educational facilities and they are even restricted from getting financial aid from the government.
