According to the infographic, the earnings gap between men and women seems to have been shirking from the last few decades. The gaps is high partly because while many women are prospering in the new economy, men have been hit hard by the recession.

When we look at the data of few decades ago, mainly during 1965, the earnings of women accounted for only 59.9%. Even in the following periods-1970-75, their earnings seem to be lower than ever before or later.

But after 1980s, the earning capacity has been gradually improving. Especially, from 2005, with the advent of emerging fields, women seem to be earning more than men. Studies show that women, who now make up equal portion with men, have outpaced men in the past 10 years in nearly every category.

At the same time, Economists say that men have been losing jobs at a faster rate than women in the recession because of troubles in manufacturing, construction and other industries. By contrast, job loss has been slow in government and health care, which tend to employ more women.
