America Boat Accidents

In the year 2011, more than 4588 boat accidents have occurred in the United States in which 758 people have died. Of the total deaths, drowning is the main cause for 70% of deaths. Reports show that 84% of individuals who have drowned in water didn’t wear a life jacket.

The top reasons for boat accidents in United States are inattention of boat operator, operator inexperience, excessive speed, excessive alcohol consumption, hazardous water, weather and force of water or wave. In 2011, 583 boat accidents have occurred due to boat operator negligence and 514 accidents were caused due to improper lookout.

Alcohol is the 6th major factor that causes boat accidents and it is leading factor that results in most of the fatal injuries. The government of United States is taking necessary measures to reduce the number of boat accidents that occur every year and it has passed a strict rule to wear life jacket before getting in to boat.
