History of Interior Design Facts (InfoGraphic)

history of interior design facts

Interior designing is the art of decorating your home. Cave dwellers are said to be the world’s first interior designers who made drawings of animals and nature for decoration.

The Greeks were the first ones to build the grand structures and use wall paintings and mosaic floors to beatify their interiors. They were followed by various styles of buildings namely, Gothic, Byzantine, Baroque and tapestries.

Industrial revolution brought contemporary interior designing for the common man. Aesthetic movement replaced Victorian style and paved way for Eclecticism and Beaux Art forms.  Art deco flourished in the 1920s and 1930s.

Sub-urban sprawls created after the war provided ample scope for development of interior decoration. Modernization brought in mixed styles. Today’s contemporary styles are inspired by bold colors and smooth lines.
