
The obesity rate which was not higher than 15% in any state of US before 1995, is now more than 25% in as many as 38 states. Mississippi State has 21.9% of childhood obesity rate which is an alarming rate. Since 1995, the obesity rate of both adults and children has doubled up in 7 states and has also increased by 90% in other 10 states.
It has been studied that obesity rates have grown the fastest in Alabama, Oklahoma, and Tennessee since 1995. The slowest growth has been in Connecticut, Washington, D.C. and Colorado.
Obesity does not come alone. Because of this, the diabetes rate has increased in double speed from 1995 in 8 states. The other partner is hypertension which is more than 20% in every state and among them 9 states have more than 30%.
Another thing obesity causes is financial crunch because the expenditures of the household with obese children increase by 30% for health costs and by 77% for medication costs.
