Child Mortality in Africa

Child Mortality In Africa

In the recent 5-year survey, the child mortality rate has fallen in African countries like Ghana, Zambia, Ethiopia Kenya. The biggest change has been seen in Senegal and Rwanda with falls more than 9% a year and it is being said that these countries now have the same child mortality rate as India. Overall, more than 10 countries had a fall of 4.4% and more. This is the rate which is needed to meet the Millennium Development Goal

Senegal cut its Mortality rate from 121 to 72 per 1000 births in 5 years. To achieve the same rate of child mortality, India took 25 years. On the other hand Kenya, which was a test case, reduced its infant mortality rate by more than any other country. Another striking thing is that the average fall  in Africa has been faster compared to China in the 1980s.
